Ever since Lord of the Rings trilogy oh so many adventure/fantasy films that have tried to come close to their quality. And oh so many have failed miserably trying to cover a weak story with soulless special effects.

Unlike the rings I was unaware of this book’s existence prior to seeing the film, and right off the bat I’ll tell you I can’t wait to read them all. It is the first of a trilogy so the film did have moments of “Quickly! Let’s introduce all these people and places”. Which is understandable since it is an elaborate fantasy world.

My favorite part is the whole church controversy thing behind the scenes. It’s great that the church is making grumblings to ban a movie about a “fictional” control freak organization trying to ban things so people don’t think for themselves. That’s awesome.

Pretty much the movie is about an organization that kills children’s souls so they can’t think for themselves. It doesn’t knock believing in another power, but it really knocks organizations that will kill you if you think differently. Hence the church’s concern I suppose. Well that and the fact that their Chronicles of Narnia didn’t make nearly as good a movie.

Truthfully, the church should be scared because the acting and special effects are remarkable (everyone with a HD TV will own this trilogy). Plus it’s a very good story encouraging everyone to dare to be free thinkers. Certainly a dangerous message to be telling Americans in this day and age.
